I've Never F ELT So Good ! - Unique Fiber Art and Wearables by NANCY SCHMITT
By combining her fine arts and textile design backgrounds, Nancy Schmitt creates unique vessels, wall hangings, and wearables made of felted wool. Her passion for working with wool fiber, along with the organic nature of the medium, help her connect the ancient traditions of feltmaking with modern artistry.  Because wool is an organic medium, she must be willing to surrender preconceived design notions and allow the fiber to develop its own unique shape and form.  The surface becomes truly three-dimensional with the addition of beads that capture and reflect light.  Sculptural cuts in the matte wool add texture and expose color changes in the fiber layers.

Nancy earned her BFA from Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) and her MSEd from The Johns Hopkins University.  Nancy has studied feltmaking with numerous internationally and nationally known and respected feltmaking artists. She is a member of the International Feltmakers Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the Carroll County Arts Council.  She also teaches workshops through private arrangement in her studio located in Westminster, MD.
